Objectives for this course include both the AIARE 1 & AIARE Rescue course. Please reference those courses for specifc objectives.

Course consists of self paced pre-course learning, + 1 Zoom, & 3 field days
*Kebler Pass may only be used by member's of the Gunnison County SnoTrackers. Join their club!

2.) Identifying avalanche terrain where consequences may be more severe.
3.) Using and interpreting weather, snow, and avalanche observations to make more specific terrain decisions.
4.) Leadership skills to use in a small team, including facilitating small group discussion, promoting appropriate terrain selection, and utilizing simple risk management strategies.

Course consists of 3 FULL days (24 hours) with at least 60% in the Field.

We teach a complete program of curriculum established and developed by the American Avalanche Institute (AAI). You can expect to develop a solid foundation of how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip, understanding basic decision making while in the field, and avalanche rescue techniques required to locate and dig up a buried person. This course provides essential training for anyone traveling in or near avalanche terrain: snowboarders, ski tourers, snowmobilers, mountaineers, snowshoers, everyone! For aspiring professionals, this course fulfills a prerequisite for the AAI Pro 1 course down the line.
